The beautiful Salaca River is situated in NW Latvia. The source is the east end of the lake Burtnieks and estuary. The total length of the river is 95 km, and is very popular for canoeing.
This view of the river includes a 19 meter high and 60 meter long sandstone rock. The rock is lightly parabolic and therefore there are interesting sound effects. For example, if you sit at the right place in the river bank, your conversation can be heard by everyone within 200 – 300 meters.
I painted this from a photo that I took while visiting Mazsalaca.
