Riga, Latvia
This is one of my favorite paintings.
This is Livu Laukums (square) in Riga’s Old Town. These magnificent buildings are from the 16th century and were influenced by the Dutch who were in their Golden Age.
The square is only a few hundred meters from my Old Riga apartment and is a hugely popular place to hang out in the summer.
When I painted this piece I wanted to exaggerate the already powerful colors of the square. Why not make the sky violet and the street a little river?
