I painted this at the Latvian National Academy of the Arts in Riga in 2005. My first painting teacher was Aleksejs Naumovs, Rector of the Academy.
He showed me how to make expressive still lifes which emphasize attitude, color and shape…but are not necessarily conformed to reality.
I love this piece which is hanging in my Oregon office.
