Riga, Latvia
The first recorded evergreen tree used during the Christmas season is Riga’s Town Hall Square, home of the Houses of the Blackheads and City Hall, with a close view of St. Peter’s Cathedral. The year was 1510.
Estonians, however, claim that the first Christmas tree was first displayed in Tallinn, also in 1510, in the Town Hall Square.
Either way, I love strolling in Riga’s in the Town Square at Christmas time at night. This painting depicts such magical walks.
